Q.What was your life like before coming to Covenant House Florida?

A.I started skipping school, leaving in the morning, and getting high with older kids. Sometimes I didn't go home for a night or two, sometimes for days. I kept running away--three four, five hundred times. I broke my mother's heart so many times it couldn't be worse if you broke it with a hammer.

Q.How did you find out about Covenant House?

A.The last time I ran away, I remember sitting on the beach early one morning. My friend was like "When are you going to get some help?" He took me to Covenant House and left me. I was so scared, so tired.

Q.What was it like for you when you first arrived?

A.I had a hard time with the structure. It took me four times to finish, but I actually graduated from CHAMP, the addiction program. I finally did it when I was 17 and everyone was really happy for me. Then, just after turning 18, I decided to go out on my own.

Q.What happened after that?

A.I ended up in a bad living situation, and I relapsed, but I came right back to Covenant House, and I'm starting over.
