Covenant House Institute -- Overview
Mission:
The Covenant House Institute will be at the forefront of social change, engaging communities in the many issues that affect homeless, runaway, and at risk youth. Through research and leadership development, we commit ourselves to affecting positive change.
Vision:
Operating internationally through all Covenant House sites, the Institute will advocate for the needs of all underserved youth, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. We will collaborate with academic institutions and social service providers to evaluate current systems, develop innovative strategies, and make policy recommendations on city, state, and federal levels. We will educate the public by developing policies and working toward realistic solutions that influence social systems on all levels. We will also provide leadership development opportunities to both youth and service professionals in order to strengthen the quality, range, and efficiency of services in our field.
Objectives:
- To bring attention to the issues that affect homeless, runaway, and at risk youth, and address the causes that lead to their current situation.
- To utilize our knowledge and experience working with this population to provide realistic recommendations for program design and policy implementation.
- To create positive change in the systems that are, or should be in place, to serve this population.
- To produce up to date, accurate, and reliable research material that educates the public about all aspects of this population.
- To develop and train a diverse team of strong leaders that are committed to affecting change in the social service field, and raising its level of professionalism.
- To train the youth that we serve to be affective advocates and a strong voice for their population.
